Building Safety Month takes place in May every year and is internationally recognized for raising awareness in keeping buildings safe.
This initiative unites industries, associations, academia, and government under a common goal to protect the public by creating a safe and resilient environment. Our primary focus as the Plant Operations Team at VITALIA Active Adult Community® – North Olmsted North Olmsted, OH is keeping our residents, visitors, and staff safe.
There are several tasks I perform to safeguard our community. I do fire drills monthly to ensure that all residents, team members, and visitors are prepared, if we ever have a fire. I also do daily walks of the property to make sure everything is safe and secure for everyone. The Plant Operations Assistant checks all battery-operated smoke and CO detectors monthly to ensure they are all working properly.

As Plant Operation Directors are leaders of the “go to” team; we always seem to know where everything is. As a team, we make sure daily that everything is kept up to top standards for safety and cleanliness. I’m proud to say we have a fantastic team that looks out for safety hazards and will address all needs.
I also utilize my building safety at home. During the winter months I shovel my driveway, and sidewalks to make sure our mailman has a safe path to our house to deliver mail. I also change the smoke detector batteries every spring and fall, to make sure they are working properly.
