Redefining dignity for residents with dementia.
It’s not always clear at first what the best course of action is when you’re caring for a loved one with advancing dementia. And when you finally realize that you need help, choosing who is best to care for them, who to trust with your loved one, can be a terrifying prospect.
But VITALIA® is here to help.
By focusing on dignity, quality of life, and independence, we strive to ensure all residents feel respected and cared for as they age, regardless of what they remember today or tomorrow.
Memory Care Apartments
Memory Care at VITALIA® is about maximizing every resident’s quality of life, hour-to-hour, day-to-day. Our apartments were designed with seniors in mind, ensuring simple and immediate access to all the necessities of life.
Assigned Life Enrichment Coordinators
Quality care begins with strong relationships. At VITALIA®, we pair Life Enrichment Coordinators and residents as a team so that personalized connection, trust, and friendship can be developed over time. By maintaining consistency we are able to focus on developing communication skills unique to each resident and identify small changes in health and wellness.
We understand that one top-of-the-mind concern for most families is finding a secure but welcoming environment. The design of the memory care cottage focuses not just on comfort and ease of navigation, but on security. However, we never want residents to feel monitored, so we make every effort to integrate resident safety systems in discreet ways.
VITALIA® crafts specialized activity areas, called Life Stations™, and strategically place them throughout our Memory Care neighborhood to promote engagement opportunities for residents. These stations evoke important aspects of life such as travel, military service, fashion, outdoor excursions, and others in order to draw attention and engage residents. Life Boxes, specific to residents, are also made by our Life Enrichment Coordinators!
Just because someone has memory loss, it doesn’t mean their ability to engage is gone – it has just changed. Our team works with each resident to create opportunities for engagement and activity, from specific events to entertainment opportunities and more.
The effects of memory loss are rough on the diet. From changing tastes to loss of appetite and even medication interactions, ensuring quality nutrition is a nearly impossible task. That’s why a robust dining strategy is one of the core features of our Memory Care cottage.
Alzheimer’s, and other memory issues, can make once routine and automatic habits difficult. That’s why we make sure that residents are bathed, groomed, and even pampered! Regular trips to the salon make residents feel refreshed and new.
Providing care for residents with dementia is a highly specialized skill – one that we develop with best courses in empathy, communication, and personal care.
Our leadership team is carefully selected and filled with exceptional, dedicated individuals who know love their work and the residents. Paired with a group of incredible Life Enrichment Coordinators, the team makes for a truly remarkable Memory Care environment.
