As Culinary Director at Vitalia North Olmsted, I approach each day with passion, not just purpose. I face new challenges, hear new stories, and discover fresh reasons to feel grateful. I’m excited to share how I arrived in this role, what fuels my dedication, and what a typical day looks like in our community. My work goes beyond preparing meals—it focuses on building connections, creating purpose, and making a real difference where it counts.
I became a culinary director in senior living after caring for my elderly mother and witnessing how essential nourishment is to both mind and body. That experience showed me how deeply food impacts older adults’ well-being.
My background in catering provided a solid foundation for this role. I learned how to manage large-scale meal production, prepare dishes that hold well over time, and minimize waste without sacrificing quality.
What I enjoy most about senior living is the honest, immediate feedback. When you’re cooking in someone’s home, they won’t hesitate to let you know what they think. That real-time connection sharpens my skills and keeps me motivated.
Each morning, I start my day by walking through the kitchens, dining rooms, and bistros. I check for cleanliness, greet my team, and connect with residents. That early interaction sets the tone and reminds me who I’m serving.
For anyone considering a culinary career in senior living, I’d say this: forget the stereotypes. The atmosphere here rivals that of a five-star resort, but it comes with the added joy of purpose-driven service.
To me, success means hearing positive feedback, seeing clean plates, and knowing that each meal delivered comfort and care. Touching tables and talking with residents reminds me why this work matters.
