There are several myths surrounding memory care, the specialized attention for individuals with memory impairments, such as Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. It’s important to debunk these myths to promote a better understanding of memory care by providing accurate information to help families find the right level of care at the right time for their loved ones.
Here at Vitalia North Olmsted, we very much believe in the phrase, “Use it or lose it.” When it comes to the independence of our residents, we want to prolong that as long as possible. Our Memory Care Support Partners understand there is a way to support our residents without fully taking the wheel. We use techniques such as hand-over-hand and we sit down during meals with residents and eat, to help encourage them to mirror our actions.
Our Memory Care Neighborhood is anything but boring! We engage our residents in fun and unique ways every day. We do cognitive engagements like trivia or matching cards to help keep the mind sharp. If our residents are looking for purposeful work, we have life stations where they can care for a baby, fold laundry, or organize jewelry. We also enjoy physical engagements such as morning exercise, walking in the courtyard, or taking scenic bus rides. We like to meet our residents where they are, and tailor each engagement so everyone can be involved.
Dementia has been seen affecting individuals as early as their forties. Using person-centered care, our Neighborhoods are designed to be accommodating for everyone, no matter their age or where they are in their journey. Moving your loved one into a Memory Care Neighborhood usually does not lead to a decline in their health. Most of the time, the move is beneficial. We understand how difficult it can be to entrust your loved one to a community, especially if you have been the caregiver yourself. There are routines and a lot of moving parts in our Neighborhood that can help your loved one thrive. Often, we see residents become more social, eat foods they wouldn’t have tried before, and even become more active!
As the Memory Care Director at Vitalia North Olmsted, I hope this information helps provide a better picture of an Arrow Memory Care Neighborhood. It is important to gather accurate data to dispel myths and make informed decisions regarding memory care for yourself or a loved one. Arrow Senior Living Memory Care Neighborhoods are full of life and joy. They are a place where individuals living with dementia can thrive and feel purposeful. Interested in learning more? We invite you to come see for yourself!
