Each year, National Assisted Living Week provides a special opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the world of assisted living communities across our nation. The week is meant to spotlight the amazing efforts of caregivers working in these communities as well as the unique residents who reside in them. As we join in this national observance, it is a chance to reflect on the importance of compassionate care, celebrate the vibrant lives of residents, and appreciate the incredible staff who make it all possible. This week also highlights the importance of assisted living communities being a part of neighborhoods across the nation.
Our assisted living neighborhood is a treasure trove of wisdom and life experiences. It’s a fascinating group of people with diverse backgrounds, often sharing stories from their past. Sometimes, they offer younger generations a first-hand account of what we might consider a “historical event.” Regardless of age, reminiscing about their lives helps us all appreciate where they came from and realize how connected we are in so many ways.
As National Assisted Living Week has officially kicked off, we are fully embracing this year’s theme, “Inspiring Generations.” This theme captures the nature of what makes Vitalia North Olmsted so special: the blend of wisdom from our older adults and the fresh vibrancy of the professionals who work here each day. To celebrate, residents and staff will enjoy a week full of unique events that highlight the various service areas who contribute to the spirit and success of our community.
What I look forward to most about celebrating National Assisted Living Week each year is seeing residents interact with staff they don’t usually get to know socially. For instance, our Plant Operations Director, who handles work orders and truly cares about our residents, often doesn’t have the time to engage with them. During this week, we can involve all department heads and residents in fun-filled social events. Setting aside time to enjoy ourselves together is incredibly important for everyone!
It is our hope by truly embracing the journey our aging adults take when they choose to make an assisted living community their home, we can inspire others to make the leap and join the wonderful culture and truly thrive alongside others in their generation.
