Fun Fact: The hat that chefs wear is called a Toque Blanche, which means white hat in French. It is believed that the height of the hat symbolizes the seniority and rank of the chef in the kitchen and the folds in the hat express the qualification of the chef.
Culinary art is the mastery of preparing, cooking, and presenting food. Culinarians, or Chefs, are experts in this field and can be found in hotels and restaurants around the world. The depth of their talent extends far beyond the kitchen. Chefs also have a profound understanding of design, food science, nutrition, and diet.
Culinarians Day, held annually on July 25th, is a day to thank and celebrate the people who impact our experience with food in such meaningful ways. Worldwide, this day is a time to appreciate the art of cooking and is often commemorated with events and competitions. At Vitalia Active Adult Community – North Olmsted, we will be honoring our Culinary Director, Jacqueline Romito, and their team!
Jacqui’s culinary background consists of various restaurant settings in Ohio and New York. She brings a unique perspective to her dishes in both taste and presentation. She loves sharing her knowledge of the culinary industry, as well as her experiences at Arrow with her team. Jacqui has instilled her dedication and excitement in them as well.
When she was on her first date with her spouse Hannah in New York, they stopped at a bar where her roommate was bartending. This was a place Lady GaGa worked prior to becoming a famous popstar. She just happened to be there that evening. Jacqui and her spouse met Lady GaGa on their first date!
When not working, Jacqui enjoys spending time with her family. Jacqui wishes she would have had the opportunity to cook for Anthony Bourdain. She really looked up to him and thought it would be an amazing experience.
Pastries are not Jacqui’s strong suit, but she makes our signature pesto sauce for salmon that is delicious! Her favorite dish to make is lobster rolls.
Jacqui can be seen everyday out in the restaurant assisting her servers and helping all departments when needed. She makes sure the food she serves exceeds expectations. Her biggest priorities are quality and the satisfaction of her residents. If there is ever an issue, she addresses it promptly.
As we were filling positions, the cooks and servers stepped up to cover open shifts. If any coworkers are sick or have vacation scheduled, the team is willing to cover to ensure that the residents’ culinary needs are fulfilled. They are amazing, show great teamwork, and complement each other. Every member brings something different and special to the culinary department that we truly appreciate. We are so lucky to have them! We could not do what we do at Kingston’s without this hardworking team.
If you want to join in the Culinarian Day fun, you can toast the day with your friends and family by cooking some new recipes! Embrace the celebration by sharing pictures or video of the recipe and your adventures on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. tagged with #CulinariansDay.
